Vince,
Last Monday the Aviation Advisory Board held its second quarterly meeting of the
year. I thought you would be interested in a brief summary of remarks made
there relating to our problem with noise from low flying aircraft.
On the negative side:
- The current increase of
overflights will continue until ERAU's semester ends in May.
- Deland's recent refusal of a
control tower for its airport will bring more training school traffic here.
On the positive side:
- Stop-and-goes have been
prohibited at our Airport.
- ERAU is preparing a video to
instruct students in anti-noise procedures.
- Airport Manager Steven Lichliter
will visit the Airport to speak with offending pilots.
- A 110+ foot high "cell tower"
will be installed to provide greater camera surveillance of the Airport [and
possibly of noise abusive night flights?]
- Planned use of Ormond Crossings
land adjacent to the Airport for related businesses should decrease the
number of flights.
- Planned extension of east-west
Runway 26-8 will enable planes to reach a higher altitude at takeoff and
thus reduce noise over nearby residential areas.
- And use of this runway by jets is
ruled out by its 75 foot width.
The next quarterly meeting of
the AAB will be on Monday July 11.
You might want to email this
summary to others concerned about Airport noise.
